Let's kick off this blog with one of my favourite psych albums.
I came across this the gem while looking for some cool shit to buy on Discogs. Right away, I noticed that it costs anywhere from $200-$800 CAD for a decent copy of the record... wondering why the fuck it was so expensive (besides it being OOP), I decided to give a track on the album a listen. I liked it, so I listened to the full album.
I'm too poor for this shit
This thing consists of ten folk tracks riddled with psychedelic sounding synths, crisp funk drums and groooooooooovy guitars. The whole album is great, but tracks like Soyle Beni and Rampi Rampi in particular could probably make an impotent man rock hard (this unfortunately, hasn't been tested).
Original front cover
As far as I know, Grazia had been singing and performing since the age of nine and was only sixteen when she started recording material for this project. When the album finally came to fruition, it was certified... copper. It flunked. Sadly she never recorded another album, and it seems like she's dropped off the face of the earth. I've been trying to find out if she's still around and what she's been up to for awhile now with no luck. I wonder what she'd think if she knew that original pressings of her album she made as a kid are going for $200-$800 on discogs? Is she aware of all the weirdos making blog posts about her? We'll probably never know. Sigh.
Original back cover
It's a shame that original pressings of the album are so expensive, but luckily Fortuna Records did crate diggers of the world a favour and reissued it back in 2013. Now poor pieces of shit like me can own a physical copy, yay!
(Just noticed the LP is sold out on their website, but you can get it here for $30-$90)
Check it out.
And here's a live performance of Grazia playing the same song at a wedding in the 80s, courtesy of Fortuna Records.
